GLENWOOD 1-09 proving to be an outstanding dam sire.

When I purchased my first Suffolk ewes and Angus cows in 1977, 2017 was not on my mind. Little did I know how quickly 2017 would approach.

Forty years of breeding Suffolk and Angus will be a poignant moment. It will be a time to acknowledge the people who have purchased our Suffolks and enabled us to have a viable enterprise.

2017 will be the year when the current generation puts in motion succession for the next generation. The year for the current generation to start stepping back.

Trends have come and trends have gone. We have walked the middle line varying only slightly towards the trend of the moment. Our major policy has been to identify a sire that meets our requirements; allow someone else to purchase the ram. Then we assess his progeny and if the progeny are up to our expectations-- purchase.

We have farmed at Te Kuiti (North King Country), Roslyn Bush (Southland), and currently View Hill (Canterbury). Each climate has exposed strengths and weaknesses within the bloodlines. The greatest test our Suffolks were subjected to were the hard cruel years of the late eighties. The weak animals disappeared fast and set us up with a flock of durable Suffolks able to meet the challenges of all climates.

Since settling in Canterbury each year we have sold all our rams and since 2010 have sold an average of two stud sires per year.

We welcome private enquiries, having rams for sale based at Lawrence (Otago) and View Hill. We also sell at the Sheffield Ram Fair in February.
